Frequently asked questions

Money, eligibility, guardians, privacy and timing — the questions athletes, parents and brands ask before they sign up.

For athletes and families

No. Creating a profile, uploading content and applying to campaigns are free. Varsity NIL keeps a 10% platform fee on a completed deal, taken from the deal amount. A $500 deal pays the athlete $450.

No. Engagement matters far more than follower count, and a club athlete with 2,000 engaged local followers is often worth more to a local business than a national account.

Brands filter by sport, school, location and engagement rate — not by follower count alone.

A parent or guardian co-signs every offer before any work starts, and payouts are set up through a guardian. Profiles can be set to school-protected so the school name is hidden from public view.

NIL rules differ by state, by school and by athletic association, and they change often. Varsity NIL keeps a complete record of every deal so you can report it where required, but it does not replace your school's compliance process.

Check with your school or athletic association before accepting any offer. If something would put eligibility at risk, do not accept it.

The brand funds the deal into escrow before you start. Once you submit the content and the brand approves it within the agreed review window, the payment is released to your wallet and can be withdrawn.

Yes. A profile can hold several sports, each with its own position, team and statistics, and campaigns in either sport can reach you.

For brands

You set the budget. Athletes publish a typical rate range on their profile — often $150 to $900 for a high school athlete and more for college athletes with a larger audience. Varsity NIL takes 10% of a completed deal from the athlete's payout; there is no separate agency fee.

Only after an athlete accepts your offer. You fund that deal into escrow, the money is held by the payment processor, and it is released to the athlete when you approve the content.

You can request changes once inside the review window. The funds stay held while that is resolved, and a dispute is reviewed by the Varsity NIL team if it cannot be settled directly.

Schools confirm the roster. A verified badge means the school and team have been checked, not just the social accounts.

Yes. A campaign can have several spots, and you review applicants, send offers and approve content for all of them from one place.

Platform, privacy and safety

A regulated payment processor holds funds in escrow. Varsity NIL does not hold anyone's money; it records the deal and triggers the release when the content is approved.

The athlete chooses: everyone, brands and recruiters only, brands only, or hidden. School-protected mode hides the school name from public view while still showing a verified athlete to brands.

Yes. First uploads are reviewed, reports are triaged by the admin team, and content that breaks the rules is removed.

Profile and deal data is used to run the marketplace and to produce the records athletes and guardians need. It is not sold to third parties.

Volleyball, football, rugby, basketball, soccer, baseball, wrestling and track and field at launch. More sports are added from the admin panel as the cohort grows.

Early access registration is open now, and athletes and brands are onboarded in groups starting with the Texas cohort. Register to be told when your sport opens.
